Christian Castro (born December 8, 1974 as Cristian Saechz Valdes) is an international pop singer who is a native of Mexico City, Mexico. He is the son of renowned actress and singer Verónica Castro; as a baby, he made his acting debut with her during the telenovela named El Derecho de Nacer . Soon after, he would appear on a television commercial with her, and on the Mexican version of the broadway show Mame alongside the prominent actress Sylvia Pinal .
Castro uses his mother's last name because the man who had a relationship with Verónica Castro by the time she became pregnant with Christian, Loco Valdes , always had an icy relationship with his son. As a matter of a fact, Valdes did not attend his son's 2003 wedding with a Paraguayan model. Another reason that he chooses to use his mother's last name is that he lists her as his number one idol in life.
Castro began his singing career on 1992 with the release of Agua Nueva. After participating in various telenovelas and recording some albums as a teenager, Castro began his internationalization in 1993, starting with concerts in Puerto Rico. As a matter of a fact, he dedicated a song to that country in his second album, Un Segundo En El Tiempo (which later became his first hit album considering his first album didn't succeed at first), as a way to thank the Puerto Rican public's backing of his career. Castro became an international teen idol and sex symbol almost instantly after he began touring, and he began what has been a fructiferous international singing career.
During the late 1990s, he dated an Argentine girl for some time. The couple was involved in a small scandal one time, when they arrived at Miami International Airport, to be hounded by a reporter who also had trouble with Alejandro Fernández and Luis Miguel, among others. The reporter asked Cristian's girlfriend a personal question, and Cristian reacted by slapping him across the face. The incident, which was filmed on camera, was shown on tabloid television shows several times.
In 1997, Castro switched from Fonovisa to BMG with the release of Lo Mejor De MiCastro added to the "h" to his name at the release of his popular album, Mi Vida Sin Tu Amor. Yet, he yet removed the "h" on the release of his hit album (Azul). After breaking up with his Argentine girlfriend, Castro met a Paraguayan girl, Gabriela Bo , the daughter of a rich man. They got married in Asunción.
Apart from the reporter-slapping scandal, Castro is known for his accessibility to fans, and it's not uncommon to see paparazzi photos showing him stopping to sign an autograph for a fan or taking pictures with them.
In 2002, Castro admit his childhood friend Luis Miguel as his rival. Shortly after marriage, Castro began to face marital problems. His wife returned to Paraguay, and he has allegedly been denied entry into that country by the Paraguayan immigration service. Rumors have spread about the reason of their split: some rumors point at him being homosexual; others say he really had multiple affairs with women during his short marriage.
Castro divorced Bo, and four days later he married his Argentine ex-girlfriend, Valeria Liberman , who is now a lawyer. On August of 2004, he legally changed his name for the third time, this time to Christian Castro at the release of his latest album (Hoy Quiero Soñar). Gabriela Bo used her fame as Cristian Castro's wife to promote her modeling career in Argentina. In February 2, 2005 on an interview at Sabado Gigante, he explained that retired Latin Pop singer José José was his godfather. Castro was later called "El Gallito" possibly from his song "Gallito Feliz"
