Charles Emmanuel I, Duke of Savoy

Charles Emmanuel I (b.January 12 1562-d.July 16 1630), surnamed the Great, was the Duke of Savoy from 1580-1630.

He married Catherina Michaella (b.1567-d.1597), daughter of Philip II of Spain and Elizabeth of Valois and had the following 10 children.

Vittorio Amedeo (b.1587-d.1637)
Emmanuel Philibert (b.1588-d.1624), Spanish Viceroy of Sicily (1622-24)
Maurice, a cardinal (b.1593-d.1657)
Margaret b.1589-d.1655, married Francis IV Gonzaga of Mantua
Isabella b.1591-d.1626, married Alphonso of Este, duke of Modena
Maria Apollonia, a nun in Rome (b.1594-d.1656)
Francesca Catherina, a nun in Biella (b.1595-d.1640)
Tommaso Francesco (b.1596-d.1656)
Giovanna, (1597)

After the death of his wife, he never remarries but was father to another 11 illegitimate children from 1600 onwards by the following mistresses , Luisa de Duing, Argentina Provana, Marguerite de Roussilon, Virginia Pallavicino, Anna Caterina Meraviglia and Anna Felizita Cusa.
