Google is a United States-based search engine on the World Wide Web owned by Google Inc.. Being the largest search engine on the web, Google receives at least 200 million (2 × 10⁸) search requests per day through its website and client websites, such as AOL.

In addition to webpages, Google also provides services for searching images, non HTML documents (such as PDF and Microsoft Word files), Usenet newsgroups, news sites, and items for sale online. As of November 2004, Google has indexed 8.05 billion (8.05 × 10⁹) webpages, 880 million images and 845 million Usenet messages — in total, over 9.5 billion (9.5 × 10⁹) items. It also caches much of the content that it indexes.
