Burning Legion

The Burning Legion is the huge demonic army created by the titan Sargeras in the fictional Warcraft universe.

History

In the beginning, the titans set out to create order in the universe. They came across several worlds, and the titans reformed them as they saw fit. However, the titan ruling council, the Pantheon, thought that they needed protection for the worlds they created. So, they elected their mightiest warrior, Sargeras, to protect their worlds.

Over several millenia, Sargeras faithfully carried out his duty. However, he came across two evil races he just could not understand. The Eredar, powerful demon warlocks, enslaved countless worlds with their powerful warlock magics. Their magics corrupted the inhabitants and turned them into demons themselves. Sargeras' power was more than enough to defeat the Eredar, but the corruption they spread troubled him greatly.

A few hundred years later, another demonic race known as the Nathrezim attempted to conquer a world of their own. The Natherezim, also known as dreadlords, is a powerful race of vampiric demons. They spread hate and distrust on that world, turning everyone on it against each other. While Sargeras' easily drove them off the planet, it worried him greatly.

However, since he is not able to understand evil, Sargeras eventually went insane, stormed from the ranks of the titans, and released all the mighty demons he imprisoned. The demons, bowing before Sageras' limitless power, pledged their loyalty to him. As soon as Sargeras built up a huge army, he set out to undo the rest of the titan's work. It is not known how many worlds were incinerated by the Burning Legion.
