Brigham Young (movie)

Brigham Young (also known as Brigham Young - Frontiersman) is a movie released in 1940 based upon a story by Lois Bromfield and screenplay by Lamar Trotti. It depicts Brigham Young's succession to the Presidency of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church; see also Mormon) after the asassination of the Church's founder, Joseph Smith, Jr. The movie begins on the American frontier in Nauvoo, Illinois in 1844 and narrates the difficulties encountered as Young lead thousands of Latter-day Saint (LDS) pioneers across the plains to settle the Salt Lake Valley in Utah. While the movie generally depicts the main events in LDS Church history well enough and sympathetically, its dramatic presentation inaccurately portrays details throughout.

The movie starred Vincent Price as Smith, Dean Jagger as Young, Tyrone Power and Linda Darnell.
