Bonsal, North Carolina

Bonsal is a small community located in extreme southwestern Wake County, North Carolina off of the original alignment of US-1. Bonsal was the site of the junction between the New Hope Valley Railroad which ran off of the main line parallel to US-1 and North to the tobacco factories in downtown Durham, North Carolina. The rail route was abandoned in the late 1970s.

Today, Bonsal and the now defunct railroad is the site of the New Hope Valley Railroad Museum. The Museum owns about 6 miles of track between Bonsal and New Hill, North Carolina. The remainder of the route is being rebuilt as the American Tobacco Trail.
