Robert "Bob" Skelly' was a Canadian politician from British Columbia. He was leader of the British Columbia NDP Party from 1984 to 1987.
His campaign in the 1986 British Columbia election was plauged with image problems. Unlike Social Credit Party leader and incumbent premier William Vander Zalm, who was praised for his looks, style, and charisma, Skelly was criticized as being dull and cold. He famously once broke into tears during a press conference, which he then suddenly ended in a quivering voice, in a move that proved to be a lasting embarassment to the campaign.
While the party failed to loose any seats under his leadership, nor did they gain any. The following year he was deposed by his party in favor of Michael Harcourt.
