The Blackburn Shark was a carrier-borne torpedo bomber built in England. The plane, first flown on August 24, 1933, was powered by 770 hp (574 kW) Armstrong-Siddley Tiger IV, VI or VIC 12 or alternately 870 hp (649 kW). Pegasus III engine. It had a maximum speed of 118 mph (190 km/h), a takeoff weight of 8,589 lb (3896 kg), a range of 547 miles (880 km), and a ceiling of 15,912 ft (4,8500 m). Its wingspan was 46 ft 6 in (14.2 m): length 38 ft 5 in (11.7 m); height 14 ft 3 in (4.3 m). Its armament consisted of swivel Vickers Berthurst or Lewis 7.7 mm machine guns, plus 1,499 lb (680 kg) of bombs or a torpedo.
