Barwick-in-Elmet

Barwick-in-Elmet is a village on the outskirts of Leeds, West Yorkshire. It is one of only three places in the area to be explicitly associated with the ancient kingdom of Elmet, the others being Scholes-in-Elmet and Sherburn-in-Elmet.

Barwick-in-Elmet is referred to locally as simply 'Barwick', and is noted for it's Maypole and Maypole raising, which when announced as a public event typically brings large crowds to the village.
