Aylesbury United F.C.

Aylesbury United is a football club currently playing in the Southern League. They are nicknamed the Ducks and they play their home matches at Buckingham Road. Their current manager (As at March 7 2005) is Danny Nicholls .

History

Aylesbury United were formed in 1887 with the merging of three local teams the Night school, the Printing Works and Aylesbury Town. They joined the Southern League in 1976 and turned semi-professional. During the period between 1985 and 1992, under the management of legend Trevor Gould , Aylesbury boasted the best FA Cup record of any side outside the Football League, reaching at least the First Round Proper every season. The highlights being a victory over then Division Four leaders Southend United F.C., a narrow extra time replay defeat against Northampton Town F.C., and being shown live across Europe against Walsall F.C.In 1994/1995 under Steve Ketteridge United won the Isthmian League Cup .

  • 1952-53 - Delphian League runner-up
  • 1953-54 - Delphian League Champions
  • 1962-63 - Normal Delphian League season aborted due to weather; emergency competition organised
  • 1963-64 - Delphian League disbanded. Clubs formed new Division Two of Athenian League
  • 1967-68 - Athenian League Division Two runner-up; Promoted to Division One
  • 1972 - Relegated to Division Two (on goal average)
  • 1976-77 - Joined Southern League Division One South
  • 1979-80 - League re-organised to Southern & Midland Divisions (No Premier), placed in Southern Division. Southern League Southern Division runner-up
  • 1982-83 - Switched to Midland Division
  • 1984-85 - Southern League Midland Division runner-up; promoted to Premier Division
  • 1986-87 - Missed runner-up spot on goal difference
  • 1987-88 - Southern League Champions (on goal difference)
  • 1988-89 - Joined Conference
  • 1989-90 - Joined Isthmian League Premier Division
  • 1998-99 - Isthmian League runner-up
  • 2000 - Relegated to Division One
  • 2001-02 - Promoted to Premier Division
  • 2002-03 - F.A. Trophy semi-finalists
  • 2004-05 - Rejoined Southern League


  • Best league position: 20th in Conference (level 5), 1988-89.
  • Best F.A. Cup performance: 3rd round in 1994-96
  • Best F.A. Trohpy performance: semi-final, 2002-03
  • Best F.A. Vase performance: 4th round, 1975-76
