Askersund Municipality

Askersund is a Municipality, in Örebro County, in central Sweden. The municipality covers an area of 820.7 km². Of the total population of 11,530, 5,778 are male, and 5,752 are female. The population density of the community is 14 inhabitants per km².

The city of Askersund received its privileges in 1643, but was regarded a town already in the 14th century. Today it has a population of 4,150 (1996). Askersund was planned to be the site of one out of two supply fortresses to Karlsborg Fortress , which was constructed in the 19th century. The city is located in the northernmost bay of Lake Vättern.
