The club was founded in January 1957 by brothers Héctor and Julio Grondona . The player most identified with the club is Jorge Luis Burruchaga, who scored the winning goal for Argentina in the 1986 World Cup final against Germany and is the current coach.
Arsenal was promoted to higher divisions in 1962, 1986, 1992, and reached the top division in 2002. Arsenal has reached the quarter finals of the 2004 edition of the Copa Sudamericana.
