Anglo-Indian

Anglo-Indians (or Anglos, as they are sometimes known in India) are persons with a mixed British and Indian descent.

Anglo-Indians form a small portion of the minority community in India. Most live in large cities, such as Mumbai, Kanpur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Hyderabad, Poona, Chennai (Madras), Jhansi, Nagpur, Mysore, Bangalore and Delhi. Prior to independence, most Anglo-Indians worked for the Indian Railways.

Their numbers in India have dwindled significantly as most have emigrated to the UK, America, Australia and New Zealand.

The Anglo-Indian community is the only one that has its own representatives (2 nominated members) appointed in the Indian Parliament - The Lok Sabha (Lower House). This is done because the community has no native state of its own.

Physically, Anglo-Indians can usually be recognized for their comparatively light complexion, fair hair and British surnames.
