Amon Amarth (band)

Named after a place in J. R. R. Tolkien's Middle-earth, Amon Amarth is a Viking metal band from Sweden. The name means "Mount Doom" in Sindarin.

The five Swedish death metallers are known for their melodic death metal based on the bleak Norse Mythology, with such tunes as "The Arrival of The Fimbul Winter" and "Versus the World".

Formed in 1988 as the death metal band Scumm, the five Viking thrashers switched to "Amon Amarth" in 1992, with the release of the album Once Sent From The Golden Hall. Their popularity rose when they released "The Arrival of the Fimbul Winter", selling all 1000 demo discs in less than 12 hours in 1995.

Their latest album, The Fate Of Norns, was released in Sweden on September 6, 2004.
