Almada is a city in Portugal. It belongs to the district of Setúbal, the Lisbon and Tagus Valley region, and the Setúbal Peninsul subregion. It has about 19,500 inhabitants.

Almada is the principal city of a small but densely populated municipality 69.98 km² in area and as of 2001, a population of 160,826; it is subdivided into 11 freguesias. The municipality is limited from the east by the Seixal and from the south by Sesimbra . It possesses a long coast on the west towards the Atlantic Ocean, and to the north and northeast opens to the Estuário do Tejo , in front of Lisbon and Oeiras.

The concelho received a [foral] from Dom Sancho I in 1190.
