The Alliance Marxist-Leninist was founded in 1989 by former members of the Albania-USA Freindship Society . Its members then are Hoxhists , meaning they follow in the legacy of former dictator of Albania Enver Hoxha - of course, they describe themselves as orthodox Marxist-Leninists, since they uphold Hoxha as the true bearer of the tradition of Marx and Lenin, as once upheld by Stalin. They stopped being friendly to Albania once Hoxha's hardline rule had been revoked following his death.

They are linked to the Communist League, a similar group in Britain.
