Allegheny Airlines was an airline based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It was the forerunner of today's US Airways.
Allegheny before 1979
Allegheny merged with Mohawk Airlines in 1977.
Allegheny under USAir and US Airways
Later, US Airways revived the Allegheny name for one of its wholly owned commuter operators. It flew under the trade name "US Airways Express," maintaining the Allegheny name officially in order to keep the trademark under US Airways' control. The airline was headquartered in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and flew primarily De Havilland Canada Dash 8 turboprop aircraft until it was acquired by Piedmont Airlines in 2004.
