Alfred Jules Belpaire (26 June 1820 — 27 January 1893) was a Belgian locomotive engineer credited with introducing the Belpaire firebox .

Belpaire was born in Ostend, Belgium, and talent saw him go to university in Paris.

In 1860 he introduced a new square-topped firebox.

He died in Schaerbeck , Belgium aged 72.
