Alex Stepney

Alex Stepney (born September 18, 1942 in Surrey) was a English football player. Alex was purchased from Chelsea by Manchester United for £55,000 in 1966, a record at the time for goalkeepers. He made his first appearance for the club in 1966 against Manchester City. He would help the club win the League Championship in 1967 and the 1968 European Cup. In the 1974, he lead the team for a time in goals scored with 2. He was penalty taker for the club that season. He still holds the club record for goals scored by a keeper. He would leave the club the United States in 1978. He made 535 appearances and had 175 clean sheets.
