Akhada

An akhada is a congregation in a military Hindu monastic order. Wrestlers are called as pahalwans in India and the place where they practise or have duels with other wrestlers in India is called as 'akhada'

The Bajrang Dal organises akhadas for exercise and training. These akhadas are places of daily or weekly meeting of the 'Bajrangis' or Dal members. This is the foundation of the Dal's organisation just as the RSS' shakhas. But the number of akhadas is far too small as compared to the shakhas though the number of Dal workers is very large. The Bajrang Dal's women counterpart the Durga Vahni also runs such training centres for training women in self-defence. They are largely attended and are very successful.
