Aconite Thrill is either a very listenable art-rock band or a very versatile math-rock band based in the United Kingdom.
The group was formed in the summer of 2001 in Harpenden, Herts out of the remnants of various failed projects. It included Alexander Woodcock and Thomas Jackson on guitar, Alistair Challans on bass guitar and Gareth Grover on drums. Combing two totally unrelated words for the band's name, the members hoped to remove the bias people may have toward a band's name and forced those intrigued to simply listen to their material to form an opinion. They later on teamed up with a vocalist from Watford, William Jeffree, to complete their lineup, playing thier first show together on the 30th of August that same year. With excellent crowd response, the quintet continued with other local shows as they refined their set of songs. Though, none of their earlier material is heard during their current live sets, save for the occasional appearance of "Jonny Magic".
During 2002 and 2003 the band spent almost every waking hour touring and gigging with other bands, learning as much as they could about the music business. The band members' day-jobs were sacrificed and, most of the time, there weren't any comfortable places to sleep overnight, but it eventually payed off during the spring.
Mighty Atom Records offically signed the band alongside other known acts such as Funeral For A Friend and Hondo Maclean , rewarding them with an EP release on the 17th of November. Though '504hrs' didn't make a very loud name for itself, finding it's way silently and covertly onto only select music store shelves, much more touring followed that year as they tried to promote their new release as best as they could. They inevitably found themselves in the recording studio again for their 2004 release: 'Recliner'.
Well recieved by most critics, the album shows Aconite Thrill moving into the scene as a big threat to other cliché punk or emo bands. Even though parts of the album may leave a bit to be desired, as an overal first release, it is an excellent debut to get the band and it's members deeper into the label and raise it's fanbase.
