Achaean League

The Achaean League was a confederation of Greek city states in Achaea, a territory on the northern coast of the Peloponnese. An initial confederation existed during the 5th through the 4th century BC. The Achaean League reformed early in the 3rd century BC and played a political and military role in dealings with Macedonia, Sparta, and others. The Romans under Lucius Mummius defeated the Achaeans, razed Corinth and dissolved the league in 146 BC. Lucius Mummius received the cognomen Achaicus ("conqueror of Achaea") for his role.
