Automatic Digital Network

(Redirected from AUTODIN)

The Automatic Digital Network (AUTODIN) is a legacy data communications service in the United States Department of Defense.

The design of the predecessor ComLogNet began in 1958; design of AUTODIN began in 1962 by contractor Philco-Ford and deployment started in 1966.

In 1982, a followon project, AUTODIN II, project was terminated in favor of using ARPANET technology for the Defense Data Network.

As of 2003, many AUTODIN switching sites have been shut down. The intention is to transition secure messaging traffic to the Defense Message System.
