ASUS

Asustek Computer, Inc. commonly called ASUS, is a Taiwan-based company which produces computer components such as motherboards, graphics cards, and notebooks. A new line of products created by ASUS are PDAs. Its main competitors include MSI, Gigabyte and other motherboard making companies also based in Taiwan.

ASUSTek sells more motherboards than any other company, reaching 30 million in 2004. This number, however, includes contracts for companies that label ASUS' product as their own.

ASUS produces components for many companies under contract, including some of Sony's PlayStation 2s and VAIOs. Also, they have some contracts with Apple Computer to make a portion of their iPods, iPod Shuffles, current G4 iBooks as well as upcoming G5 iBooks. Some of IBM models are also made by ASUS. ASUS doesn't always design these products itself.

Not long ago, ASUS started producing cell phones and LCD monitors. Currently, they are only available in Asia, particularly in Taiwan. Another new product line includes Computer Cases and CPU coolers.

Within ASUS's optical drive product line, some models of the DVD Burners have been primariy designed by Pioneer. ASUS has just relabeled and slightly modified the product.

ASUS has typically done well with OEMs, building a reputation for high quality parts. Many of its consumer products have become hardware enthusiast favorites. ASUS motherboards have enjoyed an especially strong reputation for performance and stability.
