233 Asterope is a quite large Main belt asteroid. It is a rare T-type asteroid and has relatively dark surface.

It was discovered by A. Borrelly on May 11, 1883 in Marseilles.

The asteroid was named after Asterope (or Sterope), one of the Pleiads.
