Three days before the olympics in Lake Placid, Coach Herb Brooks schedueled a game at Madison Square Garden, in New York, NY. Right before the game, Brooks cut Ralph Cox. At the start of the first period, the Soviets were starting with Boris Mikhailov in center, Valeri Kharlemov as a winger, Sergei Petrov as another winger. On defense Aleksei Kasatonov, and Fetisov . USA had Mark Johnson in center between McClanahan and Dave Silk. On defense, Jack O'Callahan and Mike Ramsey.
Johnson won the face-off, and the Soviets got the puck, over to Mikhailov, to Fetisov, and over to Kasatonov with a shot off the post. Then the puck came back to the blue with a shot, save by Jim Craig. Johnson got the puck, and was checked by Slava Fetisov. The puck went to Mike Ramsey and he was flipped over by Kasatonov. The Soviets came infront of Jim Craig, shot and scored.
The final words the announcer said was "The Soviets, robbing team USA, 10-3". After a few interviews, Herb declined all offers after about 4 or 5 interviews. When he went to the locker room, Herb Brooks said I think I'm sittin' you down Jim. Craigs response wasn't to good. Plus, Craig never took a test Herb assigned after Craig Patrick announced twentey-six names. Jack O'Callahan had a series knee injury.
Doctor George Nagobads originally said, he has a tare. He really had a Torn Ligament, and came back before the Soviet Semi-Final game.
