Åre is a Municipality in Jämtland County, in North West Sweden. The municipality covers an area of 7330.8 km². Of the total population of 9745, 4960 are male, and 4785 are female. The population density of the community is 1 inhabitant per km². The municipal seat is located in Järpen.
Åre is the main center for alpine skiing in Sweden. It will host the FIS World Ski Championships in 2007.
Åre will also be the secundary site for alpine events of Östersund in its bid for the organization of the XXIInd Olympic Winter Games, the 2014 Winter Olympics.
